The Geopark is a relatively new concept in Japan, with Shikotsu-Toya National Park celebrating its 70th anniversary this year and a natural park that has already celebrated its 80th anniversary. Geoparks are characterized by the need to make use of the area for education and tourism, and it is noteworthy that regional development and development are one of the factors.
