Mt. Yakedake

Mt. Yakedake is an active volcano with an altitude of 2455m that straddles Nagano and Gifu prefectures on the main ridgeline of the Hida Mountains, and is also known as Iodake.It has been designated as a volcano to be constantly observed and has been selected as one of Japan's 2000 Famous Mountains. Mt. Yakedake forms the Mt. Yakedake volcanic group together with adjacent Mt. Shiratani, Mt. Akandana, and Mt. Wariya.Mt. Yakedake is still active in this volcanic group.Most of the eruptive activities after the dawn of history are steam explosions, and mudflow is likely to occur. Mt. Yakedake is the most active active volcano in the Hida Mountains, causing the latest magma eruption about 1968 years ago. Mt. Yakedake lava consists of highly viscous andesite to dacite lava domes and lava flows associated with volcanic ash and volcanic rock deposits.Sediment may flow as a mud flow due to a steam eruption.Recently, earthquake swarms have been frequently observed in 1990, 1998, 2011, 2014, and 1934.The mountain area was designated as a special reserve in Chubu Mountain National Park on December 9, 12 (Showa 4).Of the volcanic group, Mt. Akandana was designated as an active volcano independently of Mt. Yakedake in the 2003 (Heisei 15) Meteorological Agency's review of active volcanoes.The volcano Mt. Yakedake has several volcanic craters near the summit and peaks around it.There is an explosion crater deeper than the water surface of the pond on the north side, with the south peak of Iwamine to the south, the north peak to the east, across the Shoga pond of the crater lake.At the south peak, there is a second triangulation point at an altitude of 2,455.4m at the Geographical Survey Institute, which is the highest point of Mt. Yakedake.Rocks on the south peak are liable to collapse and climbing is prohibited.The north peak has a fumarole with sulfur eruption on the western hillside and is active.At the north peak, there is a pillar with an altitude of 2,444.3 m of the Geographical Survey Institute.When you stand on the summit, you can feel that the south peak is slightly higher.At the summit of Kitamine, there used to be a private label of "Mt. Yakedake summit of Kitamine, altitude 2,393m".This pillar shows the elevation point of a small rock peak on the northern edge of the explosion crater, about 200 m northwest of the summit of Kitamine. ”
